Inter-American Committee on Ports of the OAS Organizes Workshop on Maritime Safety

The Inter-American Committee on Ports (CIP) of the Organization of American States (OAS) will organize, at its headquarters from April 28 to 30, the 1st Annual Workshop on Maritime Safety, which aims to strengthen the institutional capacities of member states in the area.
The workshop, which will take place in the General Secretariat building of the Organization in Washington, DC, is designed for national authorities from the region in the areas of maritime security and protection, and will emphasize how to achieve high level training as well as the presentation of best practices.
During the workshop, participants will hear presentations from the United States Maritime Administration (MARAD), the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), the U.S. Department of Transportation, the National Transportation and Safety Board (NTSB), and the U.S. Coast Guard, as well as high level officials and representatives of port authorities from 18 OAS member states.
The event, organized in collaboration with MARAD and the U.S. State Department, though its Permanent Mission to the OAS, will be inaugurated by the Executive Secretary for Integral Development of the OAS, Sherry Tross; the Chief of the CIP Secretariat, Jorge Duran; and the Acting Administrator of MARAD, Paul N. Jaenichen.
