HEMISPHERE’S JUSTICE MINISTERS TO DISCUSS
DEVELOPMENTS IN LEGAL COOPERATION

Ministers of justice and attorneys general of the Americas meet at the Organization of American States’ headquarters beginning Wednesday, April 28, at 9:30 a.m., to advance the hemispheric action plan on legal and judicial cooperation to combat transnational organized crime and terrorism.

During their three-day meeting, the justice ministers and attorneys general will discuss as well mutual legal assistance in criminal matters and extradition, hemispheric cooperation on prison policies and hemispheric cooperation to combat internet-based crime. The agenda includes follow-up on commitments adopted in the Nuevo Leon Declaration relating to corruption; review of legislation on trafficking in humans, especially women and children; violence against women; and a report by the Justice Studies Center of the Americas.

OAS Permanent Council Chairman Ambassador Miguel Ruiz-Cabañas of Mexico and Secretary General César Gaviria will address the opening session.
