OAS to Host Meeting of Chiefs of Electoral Observation Missions

The Organization of American States (OAS) will host, on Wednesday, March 11, at 9:00 EDT (13:00 GMT) the “First Meeting of Chiefs of Electoral Observation Missions (EOMs) of the OAS,” at the headquarters of the Organization in Washington, DC.

The Secretary General of the OAS, José Miguel Insulza, will open the event, which will be closed by the Assistant Secretary General, Albert Ramdin. The meeting will bring together nine former Chiefs of EOMs to speak in four different panels titled “Observing tight and/or complex elections;” “Legislative and Municipal Elections;” “Elections in the Caribbean;” and “Impact of EOM Recommendations.”

The event will include the participation of Gustavo Fernandez, Chief of the OAS/EOM to El Salvador; Enrique Correa, Chief of the OAS/EOM to Honduras; José Octavio Bordón, Chief of the OAS/EOM to Guatemala; Sergio Abreu, Chief of the OAS/EOM to Peru; Beatriz Paredes, Chief of the OAS/EOM to Colombia; Rosina Wiltshire, Chief of the OAS/EOM to Antigua and Barbuda; Adam Blackwell, Secretary for Multidimensional Security of the OAS and Chief of the OAS/EOM to Dominica; Frank Almaguer, Chief of the OAS/EOM to Saint Kitts and Nevis; Josefina Vázquez Mota, Chief of the OAS/EOM to Costa Rica; and Lourdes Flores Nano, Chief of the OAS/EOM to Panama.

At the conclusion of the panels, the Director of the OAS Department of Electoral Cooperation and Observation, Gerardo de Icaza, will present the DECO 2014 Annual Report.
