CITEL’s Permanent Consultative Committee to Meet in Lima

The Inter-American Telecommunication Commission (CITEL), an affiliate of the Organization of American States (OAS), will inaugurate the 18th meeting of its Permanent Consultative Committee I (PCC I) this Tuesday, March 1st, at 9:00 local time (14:00 GMT) in Lima (Peru).
The objective of the meeting, which ends Friday, March 4th, is to hold a dialogue and make decisions to promote the development of telecommunication infrastructure and services in the region. During the meeting, the working groups of the PCC I will meet to address issues such as policies and regulation, development and deployment of technology and services. Furthermore, other aspects of common interest will be addressed, such as user rights to telecommunication public services, Internet, roaming, norms, compliance and interoperability, cybersecurity and evaluation of vulnerability, controlling fraud and faulty practices, the use of telecommunication in the prevention and mitigation of disasters, and the relationship between telecommunication, the environment and climate change.
The event will be presided by the advisor to the National Communications Secretary of Argentina, Héctor Carril, as Alternate Chair of the PCC I. He will be accompanied by Guillermo Thornberry, President of the Supervising Body of Peru’s Private Investment in Telecommunications (“Inversión Privada en Telecomunicaciones de Perú” or OSIPTEL) and Vice Chair of the PCC I, and Clovis Baptista, Executive Secretary of the CITEL. A Seminar titled, “Experiences and/or regional models on the Portability of Numbers in the Americas,” will be held on March 2nd at 14:30 local time (19:30 GMT); it will analyze technical, operational and regulatory aspects to achieve a more efficient use of numbering, foment competency and achieve better rates.
