OAS Secretary General Travels to Peru

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, will be in Lima, Peru, this Friday, February 4, to meet with the country’s highest authorities and sign several collaboration agreements on electoral and cultural matters.

During his visit, the Secretary General will meet with the President of the Republic, Alan García, in the Government Palace; the President of the Council of Ministers, José Antonio Chang; the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Antonio García Belaúnde; and the Mayor of Lima, Susana Villarán de la Puente.

At the Peruvian foreign ministry, Secretary General Insulza will sign a cooperation agreement with Peru’s Minister of Culture, as well as two instruments for the Electoral Observation Mission the OAS will send to follow the general elections to be held in Peru on April 10. On the Peruvian side, the agreements on electoral matters will be signed by Minister García Belaúnde and by the President of the National Jury of Elections, Hugo Sivina Hurtado.

The OAS Secretary General will offer a press conference at 12:00 local time on Friday, February 4, in the Javier Pérez de Cuellar Hall inside the Inca Garcilaso Cultural Center at the Peruvian foreign ministry.
