NINTH REGULAR SESSION OF THE INTER-AMERICAN COMMITTEE AGAINST TERRORISM (CICTE)

  March 3, 2009

The Ninth Regular Session of the Inter-American Committee Against Terrorism (CICTE) begins this Wednesday, March 4th, 2009. The opening session will be held at the Hall of the Americas of the Organization of the American States (OAS), and will start at 3 pm.

The ceremony will be led by the OAS Assistant Secretary General, Albert Ramdin; the President of the CICTE and Peru’s Minister of Defense, Ántero Flores Aráoz; and the President of the Committee Against Terrorism of the UN Security Council, Neven Yurica, who is currently the Permanent Representative of Croatia in this international organization.

Among the main themes to be discussed are: measures to combat illegal arm trafficking; cross-border transferring of money or stocks through systems or informal networks geared to the financing of terrorism; and measures to improve the security and monitor of ports and airports. The closing ceremony will take place Friday 6th, at 5.00pm, and will be chaired by the President of the CICTE.
