The new Permanent Representative of Nicaragua to the Organization of American States (OAS), Ruth Esperanza Tapia Roa, today presented to Secretary General Luis Almagro the credentials that accredit her before the hemispheric institution.
In welcoming Ambassador Tapia, the Secretary General referred to her experience and previous work related to the central themes of the OAS agenda. "Very soon you will realize that, within the various tasks carried out in your professional career, there are a lot of issues that have to do directly with the work of the OAS," said the Secretary General. "We welcome you and we look forward to your contribution to achieve an increasingly democratic region with greater rights for its inhabitants," he added.
Ambassador Tapia recalled her country's commitment to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. “The government of my country has decided to strengthen the representation of Nicaragua in the OAS in order to present our progress, achievements and continuous efforts in achieving the Millennium Goals that should lead us to advance in the fight against poverty in the Americas,” said the Ambassador. She added that her representation seeks "to continue working with the OAS in all the programs that unite the countries in the common goal of achieving better and higher standards of living for our people."
