The Organization of American States (OAS) and the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) today signed an agreement to increase their cooperation on scientific issues and to collaborate with the countries of the region to promote political decisions in favor of sustainable development.
The Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro, said the two institutions work to pave the way for development and care for the environment. “This agreement will provide a stronger scientific contribution to public policy processes and help to build the human and institutional capacities our member states need to support the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,” said Almagro.
For his part the Director of IAI, Marcos da Silva, highlighted that his organization and the OAS share the same priorities. “IAI can provide very valuable services to OAS member countries, particularly in scientific terms,” said the IAI Director.
Created in 1992, the IAI has its headquarters in Uruguay and is made up of 19 countries of the Americas.
