New Permanent Representative of United States Presented Credentials to the OAS Secretary General

The new Permanent Representative of the United States to the Organization of American States (OAS), Carlos Trujillo, today presented his credentials to the Secretary General of the Organization, Luis Almagro.

Ambassador Trujillo highlighted the commitment of his country to the values of the Organization. “We, as member states of this Organization, have a long tradition of working together to advance the freedom, democracy, prosperity and security for our peoples. I intend to honor that tradition, and pledge to work with you in doing so,” he said.

For his part, Secretary General Almagro said the defense of democracy and human rights occupy a central role in the agenda of both the United States and the OAS. “The General Secretariat and the OAS are counting on your contribution to fulfill their mission of defending and strengthening democracy, ensuring human rights, and promoting integral development and multidimensional security,” said the Secretary General.

Ambassador Trujillo has been Assistant State Attorney in the state of Florida and member of the Florida House of Representatives, among other positions.
