The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, and the Permanent Representative of Honduras to the OAS, Leónidas Rosa Bautista, today signed a letter of intent from the government of that country on issues related to unaccompanied migrant children and adolescents in Central America and Mexico. The letter will serve as a basis for joint efforts to promote a forum for the analysis and discussion of the migration of unaccompanied minors, and encourage cooperation and the exchange of best practices on the subject.

The event, also attended by the First Lady of Honduras, Rosa Elena Bonilla, highlighted the importance of contemporary migration dynamics, and the strong political commitment of the governments of the region to make progress on the issue. "The signing of this letter is an expression of the spirit of cooperation between the OAS and the Republic of Honduras," said Secretary General Insulza.

The forum seeks to bring together representatives from governments, civil society, and public and private institutions to develop proposals and address the needs of unaccompanied migrant children and adolescents by promoting coordinated actions to protect and maintain family and community ties.
