The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, received in his office today in Washington, DC the President of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), José de Jesús Orozco Henríquez. During the conversation, Secretary General Insulza emphasized the importance of respect for the autonomy and independence that should prevail in the human rights work of the Secretary General and the Commission, and offered his complete support in the new term of Orozco Henriquez. The IACHR President, for his part, expressed his intention to increase his presence at the headquarters and thanked the head of the hemispheric organization for his cooperation.

Orozco Henríquez, a Mexican citizen, has been an IACHR Commissioner since January 1, 2010 and was recently elected to chair the body.
