The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today in Buenos Aires met with Aníbal Fernández, Cabinet Chief of Ministers, and with the South American country’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alberto Pedro D’Alotto, during his trip to the Argentine capital to attend the 50th Regular Session of the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD) of the OAS.

At the meetings, Secretary General Insulza and the Argentine high-level authorities spoke about issues of common interest related to the CICAD gathering, the meeting of Ministers of Public Security the hemispheric organization will organize on November 17 and 18 in Trinidad and Tobago, the Inter-American Democratic Charter, and the Inter-American System of Human Rights.

The head of the OAS in the Argentine capital also participated in a meeting with the delegates of the Member States who participated in the CICAD event, with whom he analyzed the challenges of the continent in the war against drugs. There, Secretary General Insulza highlighted the Multilateral Evaluation Mechanism (MEM) of CICAD as an example of “modern multilateralism,” and urged them to work on the development and implementation of the Hemispheric Antidrug Strategy and its Plan of Action, approved in the last two years.
