The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, met today with the Assistant Deputy Minister for the Americas of Canada, Jon Allen, with whom he discussed issues of current relevance in the hemisphere.

During the meeting, held at OAS headquarters in Washington, DC, Secretary General Insulza presented a summary of recent activity, such as the report by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, the efforts to succeed in fully reintegrating Honduras to the organization, the subject and agenda of the 41st OAS General Assembly to be held at the beginning of June in San Salvador, and the tenth anniversary of the Inter-American Democratic Charter.

The two high-level officials shared their visions for the future of Haiti, the recent elections, and the role of the OAS and MINUSTAH in that Caribbean country.

The Canadian diplomat was accompanied by the Permanent Representative of that country to the OAS, Ambassador Allan Culham.
