The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, met with the President of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, who hosted him in "Casa de Nariño," the government's headquarters.

The role of the OAS in the peace process of this South American country, the extension of the work of the Mission to Support the Peace Process (MAPP) to 2014, as well as the main regional conflicts were subjects of conversation during the meeting, which also was attended by Vice President Angelino Garzón and the representative of the hemispheric Organization in Colombia, Marcelo Alvarez.

Haiti, Honduras and the Summit of the Americas 2012, to be held in Cartagena de Indias, was also a subject of interest to President Santos and Secretary General Insulza.

Another key subject was the process led by the Colombian leader in search of a lasting peace for his country. "I share the position of President Santos on the FARC, but of that we know only he speaks; we know that in any case, a previous requirement is the liberation of all hostages; those decisions are objective conditions that can open roads for progress; and more than mediations, it is necessary to meet those conditions," the Secretary General of the OAS said upon leaving the meeting.
