OAS Secretary General met with Ambassador of Russia to explore options for cooperation

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) José Miguel Insulza, met today with the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in the United States and Permanent Observer to the hemispheric organization, Sergey I. Kislyak, to explore options for cooperation.

At the meeting, held at OAS headquarters in Washington, DC, both representatives discussed the possibility of strengthening the exchange of information and best practices in electoral matters by establishing a system of cooperation between the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Russia and the OAS.

The Secretary General and Ambassador Kislyak also reviewed some of what are currently the most important issues for the Organization, including the elections in Haiti, the reincorporation of Honduras to the OAS, the bilateral relations between Member Countries and other issues such as: security, crime, inequality, migration and the rights of indigenous peoples.
