The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today held various meetings in New York with Presidents and Foreign Ministers of the region and Europe, in the framework of the 65th General Assembly of the United Nations (UN). The head of the hemispheric organization met with the President of Guatemala, Álvaro Colom, and his Minister of Foreign Affairs, Roger Haroldo Rodas, with whom he addressed various items on the regional agenda, current political events in Guatemala and the road towards a solution to the Honduras case.

Afterwards, the OAS Secretary General spoke with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Ahmet Davutoglu, who showed great interest in beginning, through the hemispheric organization, a political and cultural dialogue with various countries of the Central and South American region. The Secretary General’s agenda also included a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay, Luis Almagro, with whom he also conversed about Honduras.
