The Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Albert R. Ramdin, today assumed office for his second term at a protocolary session of the Permanent Council in which he pledged “to work untiringly on behalf of the Member States and the peoples of the Western Hemisphere.”

Ambassador Ramdin outlined some of the challenges ahead for the organization, including how to transform the OAS to respond to the changing needs of its Member States; how to tangibly improve the lives of peoples of the continent; and how to inspire the youth of the hemisphere to realize their potential and achieve their goals.

The ceremony was held in the Hall of the Americas at OAS headquarters in Washington, DC.

The Surinamese diplomat has been OAS Assistant Secretary General since July 19, 2005, and he was reelected by acclamation on March 24 for the period 2010-2015.
