OAS Secretary General Participated in the Conclusion of the Civil Society Forum of the Summit of the Americas

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, participated today in the conclusion of the Forum of Civil Society and Social Actors in the framework of the Seventh Summit of the Americas in Panama City, Panama.

The OAS leader participated in the Forum together with the Presidents of Panama, Juan Carlos Varela; the United States, Barack Obama; and Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos. During the event, the representatives of civil society organizations of the Americas presented their contributions and recommendations in areas such as education and culture, security, employment, and the fight against discrimination, among others, for the consideration of the Heads of State and Government during the Summit.

The recommendations of the Forum, which was inaugurated on Wednesday by President Varela and Secretary General Insulza, will be presented to the Summit Review and Implementation Group (SIRG) of the OAS. The conclusion of the Forum included the presence of the Foreign Ministers of the United States, John Kerry; and Chile, Heraldo Muñoz; the Deputy Foreign Minister of Ecuador, Leonardo Arízaga; and the Secretary for External Relations of the OAS, Alfonso Quiñonez, among others.
