The Chair of the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) and Permanent Representative of Suriname to the OAS, Niermala Badrising, today opened the 2015 edition of the Model General Assembly of the Organization for university students at the headquarters of the hemispheric institution in Washington DC.

The event, organized together with the Institute for Diplomatic Dialogue in the Americas (IDDA), and which will take place until Friday, April 3, is a simulation exercise in which students from across the Hemisphere represent diplomats from OAS member states and debate resolutions on the current issues of the Inter-American agenda. The model Assemblies promote knowledge about the institution at the various levels of university education, as well as the development of leadership in the students, their ability to negotiate, work in teams, and resolve conflicts.

In addition to the Chair of the Permanent Council, the opening of the event included the participation of the Director of the Department of International Affairs of the OAS, Jane Thery; and Profession Darío Pereyra of the Universidad Nacional de La Matanza of Argentina.
