OAS Permanent Council Bids Farewell to the Permanent Representative of Uruguay

Members of the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) at today’s meeting offered a farewell to the Permanent Representative of Uruguay, Milton Romani, who finishes his work after more than two years.

In their comments, representatives of member states highlighted the personal and professional qualities of Ambassador Romani, with particular emphasis on his strengths, talents, conciliatory attitude and friendliness. Members of the Council acknowledged the legacy left by the Uruguayan diplomat to the Organization and to the spirit of Inter-Americanism and praised his contribution to the issues of drugs and human rights in the Hemisphere.

In his farewell to the Uruguayan Representative, the OAS Secretary General, José Miguel Insulza highlighted the significant contribution he made to the most important topics that have occupied the agenda of the Organization in recent years. In this regard, he recalled Ambassador Romani´s participation in the Special General Assembly on Human Rights, the debates on the topic of drugs, an issue "that has become a remarkable issue for the Organization," and his speeches in areas related to the full exercise of democracy . Insulza concluded by affirming that Ambassador Romani "represents a progressive political vision in the Latin American region."
