Secretary General Receives Vice President of Colombia

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today received the Vice President of Colombia, Angelino Garzón, at the headquarters of the Organization in Washington DC.

During the meeting, the two discussed the cooperation of the hemispheric institution in the peace process in Colombia (Mission to Support the Peace Process, MAPP) the de-mining programs in the country, the hemispheric debate that has followed the presentation of the “Report on the Drug Problem in the Americas” (Analytical Report and Scenarios Report), and the importance of peace for reducing violence and poverty in the country.

Present at the meeting were the Ambassador of Colombia to the White House, Luis Carlos Villegas; the Chief of Staff of the Secretary General, Hugo de Zela; and the Director of the Department of Public Security of the OAS, Paulina Duarte, among others.
