OAS Secretary General Discusses Public-Private Partnerships with Guatemalan Businessmen

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today met with business leaders from the Foundation for the Development of Guatemala (FUNDESA), with whom he agreed on the importance of public-private cooperation, at the headquarters of the hemispheric institution in Washington, DC.

The OAS Secretary General and the entrepreneurs spoke about projects related to public-private partnerships that are taking place in the Central American country, in particular the Para más información, visite la Web de la OEA en First National Human Development Agreement (Spanish only), whereby the business sector, the government and political parties pledged to promote policies on education, nutrition and training. Secretary General Insulza stressed the importance of such initiatives and expressed the willingness of the OAS to collaborate on these issues with Guatemala.

The meeting included the Chief of Staff of the Secretary General, Hugo de Zela; the OAS Secretary for External Relations, Alfonso Quiñónez; the Permanent Representative of Guatemala to the OAS, Rodrigo Vielmann; Ambassador of Guatemala to the White House, Julio Ligorría; the President of FUNDESA Felipe Bosch; the Vice President of FUNDESA, Salvador Paiz; the Executive Director of FUNDESA, Juan Carlos Zapata; the Director of FUNDESA, Humberto Olavarria; the Chair of the Coordinating Committee of Agricultural, Commercial, Industrial and Financial Associations (CACIF) José Santiago Molina; and the Vice Chair of CACIF, Roberto Ardon.
