ASSEMBLY ELECTS OFFICERS FOR SEVERAL OAS AGENCIES

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida –Clare Kamau Roberts, of Antigua and Barbuda, has been reelected as Chairman of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights. The election was held Tuesday evening during the final plenary session of the Organization of American States’ General Assembly, which also elected new officers to a variety of inter-American agencies.

Argentinean Víctor E. Abramovich Cosarín and Paolo Carozza of the United States are the other members elected to the Washington-based human rights Commission.

Meanwhile, Ana Elizabeth Villalta, of El Salvador; José M. Delgado Ocando, of Venezuela; and Jaime Aparicio Otero, of Bolivia, were elected to membership on the Rio de Janeiro-based Inter-American Juridical Committee.

Elected to the Santiago, Chile-based Justice Studies Center of the Americas were Hebe Martínez Burlé, of Uruguay; George M. Thomson, of Canada; and Carlos Eduardo Caputo Bastos, of Brazil.

US national Andre Surena was elected as a member of the OAS Administrative Tribunal, which is headquartered in Washington.

And finally, Howard J. Krongard, a US citizen, was elected to the Washington-based Board of External Auditors.
