GENERAL ASSEMBLY ELECTS NEW AUTHORITIES OF OAS BODIES

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic—During its last plenary session today, the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) elected new authorities to serve on various bodies and entities of the Inter-American system.

For the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, based in San Jose, Costa Rica, the following members were elected: Leonardo Franco, of Argentina; Margarette May Macaulay, of Jamaica; and Rhadys I. Abreu de Polanco, of the Dominican Republic.

Three people were elected by acclamation to the Inter-American Juridical Committee: Ricardo Antonio Silva Seitenfus, of Brazil; Hyacinth Evadne Lindsay, of Jamaica; and Jorge Palacios Treviño of Mexico.

Héctor Enrique Arce Zaconeta, of Bolivia, was also elected by acclamation as a member of the OAS Administrative Tribunal, headquartered in Washington.

Finally, Jaime Arellano Quintana of Chile and Lloyd Ellis of Jamaica were re-elected for membership on the Board of Directors of the Justice Studies Center of the Americas. Russell Wheeler of the United States won the last available vacancy on the Board of Directors.
