U.S. students participate in OAS General Assembly simulation
Approximately 260 students from 24 high schools in the United States participated in the 28th Model OAS General Assembly (MOAS) that took place December 2-5, 2009. The MOAS is a program designed to promote democratic values among the hemisphere's youth by offering them first-hand knowledge of the work carried out by the OAS and its member countries. This is done through a simulation exercise in which students represent diplomats and political officials in a series of debates and negotiations that result in the formulation of a unified declaration. The subjects debated during the 28th MOAS included: Promotion of non conventional education initiatives to improve the wellbeing and safety in the Hemisphere; democracy and the inter-American system; freedom of expression; the fight against terrorism; and reducing the digital gap in the Region.
