  June 20, 2011

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, is to participate this week in the meeting on Security in Central America convened by the President of Guatemala, Álvaro Colom.

Participants in the meeting include the Presidents of the SICA countries, who will debate regional mechanisms to face transnational crime. The event will be held in the Guatemalan capital on June 22 and 23, only two weeks after the OAS General Assembly in San Salvador addressed the implementation of a coordinated plan of action at the continental level to fight organized crime.
