OAS and Global Coalition for Efficient Logistics Sign Cooperation Agreement

  May 27, 2011

The Organization of American States (OAS) and the Global Coalition for Efficient Logistics (GCEL) today signed a Cooperation Agreement that seeks to jointly contribute to facilitate the participation of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in global trade, by improving supply-chain management of goods and services, and as a way to promote economic growth and enhance the competitiveness and access of the OAS Member States to international markets.

The agreement was signed at OAS headquarters in Washington, DC, by the OAS Executive Secretary for Integral Development, Ambassador Mauricio Cortes Costa, and the GCEL Co-Chairman Captain Samuel Salloum.

MSMEs constitute a pivotal force to generate employment, foster social inclusion and equity, and have a real impact on sustainable, social and economic development. In this sense, supply chain management improvements and innovations in the logistics infrastructure constitute key components of competitiveness. They are therefore of the highest importance to support the performance of MSMEs in foreign trade markets.
