OAS Assistant Secretary General Briefs CARICOM Leaders on Haiti

The Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Ambassador Albert Ramdin, met with Jamaican Prime Minister Bruce Golding in Kingston, Jamaica, as dialogue on the situation in Haiti continues with CARICOM leaders. The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s Office, focused on support for the electoral process, as well as the challenges heading into the second round of elections in the CARICOM member country, Haiti.

During his visit to Jamaica, the high-ranking OAS official also met with CARICOM Chairman and Prime Minister of Grenada Tillman Thomas. Talks between Prime Minister Thomas and Assistant Secretary General Ramdin also centered on recent developments in Haiti, as CARICOM leaders prepare for an intersessional meeting in Grenada next week.

Assistant Secretary General Ramdin has been in talks with several CARICOM leaders over the last few weeks, updating them on preparations for the second round of the elections to be observed by a Joint OAS / CARICOM Observer Mission.

While in Jamaica, Assistant Secretary General Ramdin also made a presentation to regional academics gathered at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, on CARICOM's participation in international groupings and institutions.
