OAS SECRETARY GENERAL EXPRESSES CONDOLENCES, IN WAKE OF DEATHS IN HAITI SCHOOL BUILDING COLLAPSE

Organization of American States (OAS) Secretary General José Miguel Insulza today conveyed his deepest sympathies over the death of more than 90 persons, most of them children, after a school building collapsed in Nérettes, on the outskirts of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, last Friday. The Haitian health authorities said the accident left some 150 injured.

In conveying sympathies to Haitian President René Préval, the OAS chief also expressed condolences to the families of the victims of this great tragedy, and reiterated the resolve to working closely with the Haitian authorities to utilize the pertinent cooperation mechanisms to deal with this sad situation that has left the Caribbean nation in mourning.
