OAS Assistant Secretary General Highlights Importance of Partnerships with Private Sector for Sustained Economic Growth with Social Inclusion
October 31, 2012
The Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Albert Ramdin, met with Latin American business leaders to explore ways to collaborate with the OAS and discuss initiatives that will lead to sustained economic growth with greater social inclusion in the Americas.
Assistant Secretary General Ramdin, who spoke with entrepreneurs during the 23rd Annual Meeting of the Business Council of Latin America (CEAL), held in Cancun from October 24 to 26, highlighted the importance of collaboration between the OAS and CEAL and business leadership to deliver the benefits of democracy, trade and investment to all sectors of society, particularly those in need.
Ramdin said the region is exercising greater economic influence globally, and that this is the right time for a public-private dialogue focused on problems that may inhibit further growth and opportunities for all.
Gilberto Marín, President of CEAL, expressed the commitment of the business organization to the development and welfare of the countries of the hemisphere, and stressed the importance that the organization’s collaboration with the OAS be focused on achieving tangible results that bring benefits to the region.
The OAS signed a Cooperation Agreement with the CEAL last April during the Summit of the Americas to work together on issues of importance to the Inter-American agenda.
