OAS Assistant Secretary General Met with First Lady of Panama
October 7, 2013
The Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Albert Ramdin, visited the First Lady of Panama, Marta Linares de Martinelli, in order to extend an invitation to participate as a keynote speaker at the OAS Youth Conference of the Americas 2013: “Youth in Action,” to be held November 5 at the headquarters of the Organization in Washington, DC.
The First Lady accepted the invitation from the senior OAS official and recognized the importance of supporting programs to improve the quality of life of children with special needs, in a world that increasingly presents them with challenges. The First Lady will make a presentation to the OAS Permanent Council on the work done by her office on the issue of autism and the impact these actions are having on children and young people with autism to allow them to become productive members of Panamanian society.
The senior OAS official said the Youth Forum will focus on promoting youth participation in the promotion of democratic values and entrepreneurship, adding that it will include the participation of young executives and entrepreneurs under 40 to discuss key issues affecting their generation.
The event will provide an opportunity for young people from the Americas to engage not only with the OAS, but also with hemispheric leaders from different industries.
A virtual forum will be held before the youth conference to allow prior dialogue on the event’s central issues.
