OAS Secretary General Travels to Nicaragua to Attend the Summit of Presidents of SICA

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, will travel today to Managua to attend the Summit of Presidents of the Central American Integration System (SICA), to be held Wednesday in Managua.

At the invitation of the President of Nicaragua and leader pro tempore of the Central American institution, Daniel Ortega Saavedra, Secretary General Insulza will participate in the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Esquipulas Agreements, which restored peace in Central America. He will also update the leaders of the region on the development of the study on the effectiveness of different strategies to combat drug consumption, which was entrusted to the OAS by the heads of state and government from around the hemisphere at the Summit of the Americas held in Cartagena, Colombia in April.

During his visit, the Secretary General Insulza will also hold bilateral meetings with President Ortega and Foreign Minister Samuel Santos.
