OAS SECRETARY GENERAL MEETS COLOMBIAN AND ECUADORIAN PRESIDENTS

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, is undertaking a new round of consultations with the Governments of Colombia and Ecuador in fulfillment of the mandate emanated from the Meeting of Consultation of Ministers of Foreign Affairs on March 17, 2008, which urged him to “use his good offices to implement a mechanism to restore a climate of confidence between” both countries.

On Wednesday, Secretary General Insulza met with the President of Colombia, Álvaro Uribe Vélez, while attending the XI Summit of the Mechanism of Dialogue and Concertation of Tuxtla in Guanacaste, Costa Rica.

The head of the OAS will travel today Thursday, July 30, to Quito to meet the President of Ecuador, Rafael Correa Delgado.

The OAS Secretary General is scheduled to return to Washington, DC on Friday, July 31.
