OAS Secretary General Denies Comments Attributed to Him about Venezuelan Elections

  May 5, 2013

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, described as "absolutely false" alleged statements attributed to him about the results of the elections in Venezuela, supposedly expressed in a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Spain.

The leader of the regional body said the position of the OAS was spelled out in a statement released on April 15. No further statements, public or private, have been released on the subject. "The OAS never delivers results and opinions on elections in Member Countries, except when one of our Electoral Observation Missions has observed them in the field," said Secretary General Insulza.
