Colombia to Host the 14th International Meeting “Virtual Educa 2013,” the Main Event in Latin America and the Caribbean on Education, Innovation and ITC

  May 7, 2012

Within the framework of the Sixth Summit of the Americas, Colombia’s Education Minister María Fernanda Campo Saavedra, OAS Assistant Secretary General Albert Ramdin, and José María Antón, General Secretary of Virtual Educa signed the Memorandum of Understanding that confirms Colombia as the host of the 14th International Virtual Educa Meeting 2013.

This meeting brings together experts and policymakers from more than 20 countries in Latin America, the Caribbean and Europe to discuss advances in education, innovation and ITC. The event will last five days, during which Colombia will become a meeting point for representatives of multilateral organizations, governments, the educational sector, corporations and civil society and will lead before the international education community the discussions about processes of incorporating ITC in education, as well as advances in processes of innovation, science and technology applied to the educational sector.

The meeting will take place from June 17 to 21, 2013 in the city of Medellin. It will be an excellent stage for participants to present multilateral and governmental initiatives for innovation in education and to share achievements and challenges facing the region in education in terms of teacher training, the insertion of ITC into classrooms and its impact on the improvement of educational quality.

Regional editions of Virtual Educa like the recent Virtual Educa Caribbean – which took place in early March in Paramaribo, Suriname as part of the Seventh Inter-American Conference of Ministers of Education – propel the efforts of education, innovation and development of Member States, and impart synergy and continuity to the processes of hemispheric integration.

At this moment, the OAS is in the midst of final preparations for the 12th International Virtual Educa Meeting Panama 2012, which will take place in Panama City from July 18 to 22 with the theme “Education, innovation, competitiveness, development: the keys to our future.” The meeting is being organized together with the Ministry of Education of Panama.
