  July 15, 2005

Today the Permanent Representative of Belize to the OAS, Ambassador Lisa Shoman, deposited with the General Secretariat on behalf of her government the Instrument of Ratification of the Inter-American Convention Regarding the Serving of Criminal Sentences Abroad.

In a ceremony in the office of the recently elected Assistant Secretary General of the OAS, Ambassador Albert R. Ramdin, Ambassador stressed that the ratification of this convention is an ample indication of the active part Belize plays in the inter-American system and its commitment to join with other nations of the Americas in strengthening international law.

Ambassador Ramdin in accepting the articles of ratification mentioned that Belize was the tenth OAS member state to ratify this particular convention. He expressed his great pleasure that his first official ceremony as Assistant Secretary General would involve Belize, which is a member of both the OAS and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
