OAS ART GROUP OPENS EXHIBITION JULY 22

  July 17, 2002

The fourth annual art exhibition opens at the Organization of American States (OAS) on July 22, to showcase art work by staff members of the OAS and other international organizations as well as embassies in Washington. The show runs until August 2.

Organized by the OAS Art Group, the display will feature paintings, sketches and photographs selected by an OAS team, and is being mounted under the auspices of the Art Museum of the Americas and the OAS Protocol Office. The OAS Art Group was set up to encourage participation by international officials and their families in the arts.

The exhibition will also include pieces from a recent art contest for children, entitled "The Meaning of Democracy," sponsored by the Unit for the Promotion of Democracy, as well as pieces from an art workshop that used the OAS Main Building as a model.

Senior OAS officials, members of the diplomatic corps, special guests and the participating staff members of the other international organizations are expected to be on hand for the inauguration, at 6:00 p.m. in the OAS Main Building.
