Nicaragua: OAS Electoral Observation/Accompaniment Mission to Arrive in October

The Mission that the Organization of American States (OAS) will send to the municipal elections of November 5 in Nicaragua and that will be led by the Vice President of the Electoral Court of Uruguay, Wilfredo Penco, will begin its deployment on October 10.
The base group of the Mission – which includes Penco and the Deputy Chief of Mission, among others – will be made up of 22 people, and will make its first visit in the second week of October.
Prior to that, on October 10, the mobile group will arrive, whose job will be to observe/accompany the electoral campaign underway and the development of the process.
On October 29, the base group will deploy, and one day later the 11 regional coordinators will arrive, who – together with the members of the mobile group - will deploy in the 14 departments of the country during the week of the elections.
On Wednesday, November 1, the 24 international observers will arrive, and will be distributed throughout the country according to the requirements of elaborating a statistically representative sample.
The OAS Mission will be made up of 60 specialists.
