OAS Secretary General Meets with Canadian Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas)

  February 17, 2010

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, held a work meeting Tuesday with the Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas) of Canada, Peter Kent, in Washington, D.C.

At the meeting, the two leaders assessed the latest developments in the Hemisphere, with particular attention to the process of democratic normalization in Honduras and the possibility of eventually lifting the suspension imposed on the Central American country’s activities at the OAS.

“At the meeting with Minister Kent we confirmed that we share the same goal regarding Honduras, which is to create some room for consensus in the hemisphere to allow for an appropriate reintegration of the Central American country to OAS activities. I take this opportunity to thank Minister Kent, and the government of Canada in general, for their permanent commitment with the work of the OAS,” Secretary General Insulza said.
