OAS Observation Mission Urges High Turnout in Salvadoran Election

The Election Observation Mission (EOM) of the Organization of American States (OAS) in El Salvador has deployed a total of 62 international observers from 21 countries of the region and around the world to accompany the presidential elections to be held tomorrow Sunday, February 2, in the 14 departments of the country.

The EOM has been working in recent months with a team of specialists in different areas that has been made ​​available to authorities and representatives of political parties and civil society in general to assist the process in any way necessary.

The Observation Mission of the OAS emphasizes the importance of a high turnout of the Salvadoran people in an orderly and peaceful manner in the national elections to be held tomorrow for the positions of President and Vice President of the country and expressed confidence that the Salvadoran authorities and institutions will guarantee the safety of the process and the voters.

The head of the Observation Mission, former Bolivian Foreign Minister Gustavo Fernandez, designated by the Secretary General of the OAS, José Miguel Insulza, called on "all institutions to convey confidence to the citizens in their participation tomorrow and stress the importance of that participation." Fernandez added, "the greater the turnout, the stronger will be Salvadoran democracy" and emphasized the importance of reminding voters that "their vote is secret."
