OAS Electoral Observation Mission Follows Up on the Post-Electoral Stage after the Legislative Elections in Colombia

  March 19, 2022

The Electoral Oversight Mission of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Colombia, headed by the former Foreign Minister of Paraguay, Eladio Loizaga, is monitoring the post-electoral stage after the elections of last Sunday, March 13, and is closely following the reports of numerical errors in the voting of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies.

Although these errors correspond to the results of the pre-count, which is informative and non-binding, it is a fundamental communication tool for citizens and political parties, so the accuracy of the information is even more important than its speed.

Likewise, the Mission calls for all complaints and claims to be heard, analyzed and resolved in accordance with the law and using the legal channels provided for this purpose in Colombian legislation. Once they have been resolved, we urge that they be communicated to the population in a clear and transparent manner, in order to give confidence and certainty to the process, in view of the presidential elections of May 29th of this year.

The Electoral Observation Mission will send in the next few days a technical team that will follow up on the following stages of the process and will be open to meet with all the actors that so require.
