OAS Promotes Intersectoral Dialogue on Social Protection, Labor, and Employment

The Organization of American States (OAS) and the Government of Brazil will hold an intersectoral event this November 30 and December 1st in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to address the innovations and progress achieved in social protection and employment creation in the region.
The “Seminar on Intersectoral Public Policies: Social Protection, Labor, and Employment,” will discuss the innovations and progress achieved at the regional level and the intersectoral focus on matters of social protection, as well as employment creation through programs directed at the most vulnerable sectors of the population. Furthermore, it will analyze existing political and administrative problems, such as financing, and the role of the various stakeholders involved.
Among the participants are the Minister of Labor and Employment of Brazil, Carlos Lupi; the Minister of Social Development and the Fight against Hunger of Brazil, Marcia Lopes; the Chief of Staff of the Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Security of Argentina, Norberto Ciaravino; and Mauricio Cortes Costa, OAS Executive Secretary for Integral Development.
The joint OAS-ILO-ECLAC document, titled, “Protección Social y Empleo: análisis de experiencias derivadas de programas de transferencias con corresponsabilidad” (“Social Protection and Employment: Analysis of Experiences Derived from Transference Programs with Shared Responsibility”), will be presented during the meeting, which is organized by the OAS Department of Social development and Employment jointly with Brazil’s Ministries of Labor and Social Development and the Fight against Hunger.
