  September 19, 2012

The Organization of American States (OAS) and the Ministry of Culture of the Presidency of El Salvador and the Salvadoran Institute for Children and Adolescents (ISNA) will organize a concert tomorrow, Thursday, September 20, in the Auditorium of the Business Foundation for Educational Development (FEPADE) in San Salvador. The National Youth Philharmonic Orchestra will also take part, and will be in charge of welcoming the ISNA Youth Orchestra.

The concert takes place within the framework of a new musical orchestra pilot project at the Center for Women’s Social Integration of Ilopango (CISF), where 73 adolescents belonging to the gangs MS and 18 are held. The inmates, who belong to rival gangs, were separated, but have taken part in the workshop as part of the peace process between the gangs being carried out in El Salvador, which has managed to lower the number of daily homicides by more than half.

The pilot project is organized by the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD) and the Office of Education and Culture of the OAS, together with the Batuta Foundation of Colombia.
