OAS Co-organizes Seminar on Policy Reforms in Buenos Aires

  June 27, 2014

The Organization of American States (OAS) will co-organize an international seminar entitled "Political Reforms to Party Organizations" on July 2 and 3 in the Legislature of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The seminar, organized by the Secretariat for Political Affairs of the OAS together with the Argentine Society for Political Analysis (SAAP), and the Ibero-American Institute of the University of Salamanca, aims to create opportunities for reflection and analysis of policy reforms in the region.

During the meeting, political reform initiatives will be evaluated in several areas such as deepening internal democracy mechanisms, financing of political parties, access to the mass media, affirmative action mechanisms, independent candidacies, the creation and validity of political parties, the rights of party activists and the role of electoral bodies in the internal life of parties, among others.

The seminar will also provide a basis for the promotion of a discussion on lessons learned in negotiating political reforms, to be presented by the protagonists of reform processes in different Latin American countries.

The activity is part of the strategic alliance of the Ibero-American Institute of the University of Salamanca, the OAS and the Argentine Society for Political Analysis that seeks to strengthen democracy in Latin America.
