OAS Celebrates House of the Americas One Hundredth Anniversary

  April 27, 2010

The Organization of American States (OAS) will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the House of the Americas, the organization’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., this Thursday, April 29, beginning at 18:00 EDT (22:00 GMT) with a ceremony to which the Secretary General, José Miguel Insulza, has invited important figures of the world of politics, academia and the arts.

Among those whose attendance to the event has been confirmed are former secretary generals of the OAS César Gaviria and Luigi R. Einaudi; the former prime minister of Jamaica P.J. Patterson; the United States Secretary of Labor, Hilda Solís; the governor of the State of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto; the US Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Arturo Valenzuela; the United Nations Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Alicia Bárcena; and other representatives of international organizations.
