  March 25, 2019

Under the slogan: “Overcoming Multidimensional Poverty and Closing the Gaps in Social Equity: Towards an Inter-American Agenda for Social Development,” the member countries of the Organization of American States (OAS) will meet in Guatemala City on March 28-29 on the occasion of the Fourth Meeting of Ministers and High Level Authorities on Social Development (REMDES).

The meeting will be inaugurated by the OAS Secretary General, Luis Almagro, and the Minister of Social Development of Guatemala, Carlos Velásquez Monge.

The meeting seeks to reach agreement for the first time on a "Plan of Action" with a view to an Inter-American Agenda for Social Development, and the signing of an "Inter-American Declaration of Social Development Priorities."

The meeting in Guatemala City will be the fourth Ministerial of Social Development (REMDES). The first took place in Reñaca, Chile in 2008; the second in Cali, Colombia in 2010; and the third in Asunción, Paraguay in 2016.
