OAS and Ministries of Labor of the Americas to Analyze Actions against Child Labor

The Organization of American States (OAS), with the support of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security of Costa Rica, the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Ministry of Labor and Employment of Brazil have organized in San Jose, Costa Rica a Hemispheric Workshop Against Child Labour under the title "Moving towards better opportunities for children and adolescents in the Americas" to be held on February 21 and 22, 2013.
The event brings together high-level representatives and experts in child labor from more than 25 Ministries of Labor of the Americas, members of business and labor organizations, as well as international and civil society organizations in order to share best practices and identify lessons learned in the prevention and eradication of child labor and its worst forms. It seeks to provide input and make recommendations to the Third Global Conference on Child Labour, to be held in Brazil in October 2013.
The international community has set a goal of eliminating the worst forms of child labor by 2016. Similarly, the labor authorities of the hemisphere gathered at the XVII Inter-American Conference of Ministers of Labor of the OAS reiterated their commitment to eradicate child labor to move toward greater social progress and achieve the comprehensive development of children and adolescents.
The Minister of Labor and Social Security of Costa Rica, Dr. Olman Segura Bonilla, the OAS Director of the Department of Social Development and Employment, Dr. Evelyn Jacir de Lovo and the Deputy Minister of Labor of El Salvador, Dr. Oscar Morales, will inaugurate the workshop, which is part of the initiatives of Inter-American Network for Labor Administration (RIAL).
