Energy and Climate Authorities of the Region will Address Strategies to Achieve the Goal of Net-zero Emissions by 2050

The regional meeting seeks to promote shared energy leadership, cooperation and integration in the Americas in order to achieve zero net emissions by 2050. It will also be an opportunity to identify energy priorities, areas of knowledge and potential synergies in order to facilitate cooperation. at different levels (eg: South-South, North-South, bilateral, multilateral) and highlight projects or initiatives with measurable results of high impact.
In addition to guiding ECPA's future activities, the event will serve as a source of energy information for the deliberations of the heads of state at the IX Summit of the Americas to be held in Los Angeles in June.
The OAS, through its Executive Secretariat for Integral Development (SEDI), has operated the ECPA Technical Coordination Unit since 2009. This unit was conceived as a mechanism to foster inter-institutional alliances, promote greater dialogue, collaboration, and awareness on issues related to energy and climate change.
Through government, technical or private sector deliberations, the event will provide a forum where countries can engage in dialogue with business and civil society, discuss common interests and build alliances to address the need for region to decarbonize the energy sector and meet climate targets.
The meeting will have as its main theme "Just and Inclusive Energy Transitions," and the sub-themes for discussion will include: renewable energy, universal access to energy, electric mobility, decarbonization, resilient energy infrastructure, financing, and private sector engagement.
The inaugural session of the event will be open to the public and will include the participation of:

The agenda of the ministerial meeting will open with a presentation by the United States Presidential Special Envoy for Climate, John Kerry.
