OAS Organizes First Public Discussion Forum of the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas
January 15, 2014
The First Public Discussion Forum of the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas, which will have as its theme Energy and Climate Change Education, will be held on Thursday January 16, at the headquarters of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington DC. The OAS, through its Department of Sustainable Development (DSD), together with the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA), is organizing this event to supporting the dialogue on sustainable energy solutions and climate change mitigation.
The debate will focus on best practices and lessons learned in energy and climate change education, and to build collaboration on this topic among the nations of the Americas. The forum will contribute to strengthening understanding of the clean energy market and identifying new avenues for cooperation in the area. The forum aims to help advance the understanding of clean energy markets and the identification of new avenues for cooperation in the field. The event is part of a series of regional forums and technical workshops geared toward fostering energy and climate dialogue in the region, based on the fact that education and awareness are crucial to the advancement of sustainable energy solutions and climate change mitigation.
ECPA is an initiative that emerged from the Fifth Summit of the Americas held in April 2009 in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, where hemispheric leaders underscored that energy and climate change are among the most important issues confronting our future and they reaffirmed their commitment to work together towards a clean energy future. The DDS of the OAS General Secretariat has operated the ECPA Clearinghouse since 2009.
