New Permanent Representative of Chile Presented Credentials to OAS Secretary General

The new Permanent Representative of Chile to the Organization of American States (OAS), Hernán Salinas, today presented his credentials to the Secretary General of the Organization, Luis Almagro.

Ambassador Salinas said his government and the OAS share the same values and principles. “The defense of democracy and human rights are fundamental to the foreign policy of Chile and the administration of President Piñera. We recognize the contribution of the OAS and the reaffirmation of the Inter – American Democratic Charter,” stated Ambassador Salinas.

For his part, the Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro, was convinced that the Chilean diplomat will contribute to the defense of the fundamental principles of the hemispheric Organization. According to Almagro, “Ambassador Salinas has extensive experience in the defense of human rights and he has firsthand knowledge of the Inter–American legal framework. We know that his input will be important for the Organization.”

The ceremony was attended by the Chilean Minister of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Ampuero, the Assistant Secretary General of the OAS, the Chair of the Permanent Council and the Permanent Representatives of various member states.
